The four wheel drive option adds additional capability to the vehicle, particularly in off-road conditions such as construction, or in snow or other traction limiting situations. These types of trucks can be had with gasoline engines and also diesel engines or even compressed natural gas or propane. Diesel engines are often preferred in trucks for slightly improved economy and better low end power for towing and other demanding tasks.
